What was the highlight of Royal Hotel by Greene King Inns
No lift.
Beautiful position high over the river. Tasteful decor. Lovely food, although pricey. Staff were friendly & helpful.
NO LIFT! It needs to be pointed out on the hotel's website that because there is no lift, that it is unsuitable for guests with limited mobility. Our room was on the top floor up two flights of (windy) stairs. My mother who is 83 could not handle them. Consequently, we had to take a room downgrade (fewer steps) so instead of looking at our beautiful view of the river, we had a view of a fire escape! It was only for one night but if we'd been staying longer, it could have been an issue

We had a most enjoyable stay.
We had dinner and x2 breakfasts. Both were very good. The waitress named Carol was both friendly and welcoming, she is excellent front of house.
Being in such a prominent position the start of the town. The exterior of the building needs attention.

Great Stay for 1-2 night break.
Lovely hotel, superb great location. Small parking area, we didn’t have an issue with this but the hotel was getting busier. A very good nice breakfast. Rooms are nice enough, but may benefit from a refurb. Comfortable bed. Friendly helpful staff. Good view from the rooms despite scaffolding in situ which I was informed it was for emergency repairs, it didn’t look like emergency repairs tho. The scaffolding didn’t spoil the stay. Could do with some improved better tea bags i.e Yorkshire Tea. Certainly would recommend and come back.

lovely Location
The hotel was in a very good location , the staff were very friendly and helpful , great views of the river
The car park is a little small and sometimes you can't get a space , they could also do with a lift
