The historical hotel is built on the foundations of a 13th-century Bishop’s Palace. It has been visited by Queen Victoria and famous author, Charles Dickens.

No lift.
Beautiful position high over the river. Tasteful decor. Lovely food, although pricey. Staff were friendly & helpful.
NO LIFT! It needs to be pointed out on the hotel's website that because there is no lift, that it is unsuitable for guests with limited mobility. Our room was on the top floor up two flights of (windy) stairs. My mother who is 83 could not handle them. Consequently, we had to take a room downgrade (fewer steps) so instead of looking at our beautiful view of the river, we had a view of a fire escape! It was only for one night but if we'd been staying longer, it could have been an issue

Our stay was pleasant, the staff were extremely friendly and kind but the building was rather old
Breakfast and dinner. Location and parking.
Discordant music playing in all the public rooms all day. We could not open the windows in our bedroom so it was very hot and stuffy. There was not a lounge where we could sit comfortably and read.
